Race Note: Yesterday the tracks were cut deep into somer firmer and icyer snow which required an uptick in the grade at the venue. Had the tracks not been cut into the icy layer underneath the VR40 was rocket fast and had great kick. With the icyer tracks under the new snow once a few passes went it required softening your wax to make an adjustment. Rode Multigrade violet was the ticket 2 layers over the race wax with a thicker section underfoot. Better kick than 95% of the people around. Also with the icyer cut underneath in hindsight the binder of Powergrip Blue would have been a touch better, but the wax seemed to not wear off at all over the 51k so this is a minor issue. The Rode did lose some glide over the flouro waxes but with 10 mins to start it is a go to for kick.

Noquemanon Marathon

Kick: Rex Green Powergrip Ironed in (thicker under your foot), and then chilled outside. Cover with 3 layers of Swix VR40. On the final layer mix in 25% Toko Dibloc Bright Blue to increase glide. If you dont have this then you could use VR30 but that did not test out as well today. This step could be skipped.

Glide: Sxix LF6 mixed with 30% CH 4 is simple, easy and fast. Moderate to strong structure due to humidity.

The Extra Blue, and Rode Super Blue as well as VR45 were tested today but did not perform as well mostly due to icing. As always kick is dependent upon technique so you may have to adjust.

FRIDAY

Kick: Rex Blue PowerGrip Ironed in, & chilled, covered with 2 Swix VR45 and 1 VR40 over that. If your technique requires more kick avoid the VR40 cover. Watch for icing today with the new snow and standard softer hard waxes. THe lake effect snow is very moist and prone to icing and the tracks will be glazed after a pass or two.

Glide: CH4/6 50/50 from Swix

Kick: Binder Ironed In. 2 Star Blue, 1 Star Red, 1 Star Violet or Violet Top Coat

Glide: Ch-7 from SWiX

Kick: Rex Powergrip Violete ironed in, then chilled, with a thin thin cover of Swix VR55 when ski is chilled. This will prevent icing in the new snow but still allow good kick. Also one could use Rode Multigrade Violet but this is prone to icing occasionally if you dont keep it cranking up everything in conditions like today.

Glide: Star Violet won the test yesterday so would be recommended today or CH-7/8 80/20 ratio mix.

Today we Tested the Start MCW waxes again in higher humidity and about 28 degree temps air/snow. We layered the 28-32f wax over the 36-30f wax and found they were pretty good. With all of our ironed in old wax as binder it was a bit too thick on the downhills. Overall though the line is similar to VR but a bit harder to apply without chilling the wax. The wax seems to have a bit of additional grab per temp range than VR. For Glide CH 7 and Star Violet tested out over Rex Blue. The tracks were very greasy but were regroomed while skiing changing the conditions. While we tested the Start, the Wax4Today was in actuality the Rex PowerGrip or the actual recommendation.
